Course Overview:

Students are the future of the physiotherapy profession, therefore it is necessary for them to gain an appropriate amount of experience so that they may join the profession with proficiency and ease.

By providing students with clinical education, clinical supervisors are actively supporting the delivery of higher quality physiotherapy to patients in Canada.

This course will outline clinical education requirements in Canadian Physiotherapy programs and briefly describe some of the challenges associated with clinical placement recruitment using data collected from physiotherapists in Canada.

This online course will present an overview of some of the facilitators supported in the literature in providing clinical supervision, the “PERKs”, as well as an overview of some of the perceived barriers identified in the literature, the “PITfalls”.

The PERKs of clinical supervision that will be discussed:

  • Professional responsibility,
  • Employer recruitment,
  • Rewarding experience, and
  • Knowledge acquisition.

The PITfalls of clinical supervision that will be discussed:

  • Impact on Productivity (workplace efficiency),
  • Increased stress, and
  • Organizational considerations such as Time/space.

Join Jasdeep Dhir and Jaimie Coleman as they have a facilitated discussion on how to mitigate the perceived barriers. In doing so, it increases the likelihood that the placement recruitment meets program demand.

Course Objectives:
