Join the Oncology Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association for an online, continuing education physiotherapy

 on-demand course on the clinical recognition and management of bone metastasis.

The Oncology Division has put together an expert panel moderated by Shirin Shallwani to provide an overview of the nature and risks associated with bone metastasis as well as guidelines on functional management and exercise interventions. Cases will highlight clinical management within our physiotherapy scope of practice.

Dr. Kristin Campbell, BSc, PT, PhD, Physiotherapist & Professor

Dr. Kristin Campbell

Dr. Kristin Campbell, BSc, PT, PhD, Physiotherapist and Professor, is a licensed physical therapist and a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia. She is also an Affiliated Scientist in the Cancer Control Program at the BC Cancer Research Institute.  

Her research focus on the role of exercise in cancer rehabilitation and survivorship has been funded by the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute, Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada, and others. She is the co-lead of the 2019 exercise guidelines for cancer survivors from the American College of Sports Medicine and, in 2020, received a Distinguished Achievement Award for Overall Excellence Mid-Career from the Faculty of Medicine at UBC.  

She is a member of the Oncology Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. She is also an associate editor for Physical Therapy, the Journal of the American Physical Therapy Association, and the Translational Journal of the American College of Sports Medicine (TJACSM).

 

Mary-Ann Dalzell, MSc PT, Physiotherapist & Clinical Director

Mary-Ann Dalzell

Mary-Ann Dalzell, MSc PT, Physiotherapist & Clinical Director is past Chair of the Oncology Division of the CPA and present Chair of the National Education Committee for the Division. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada and Chair of the Sports Physiotherapy Division of the CPA.

She was Clinical Director and Research Coordinator for the Rehabilitation and Exercise Oncology Program (2006-2016), Hope & Cope, Segal Cancer Center in Montreal and co-founder of the McGill Cancer Nutrition-Rehabilitation Program, serving as Associate Director from 2002 to 2006. As past Faculty Lecturer in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy, McGill, she has coordinated and taught specialized courses in Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Biophysical Modalities and Cancer Rehabilitation and continues to teach basic and advanced courses in rehabilitation oncology nationally for the CPA and a progressive series of online Courses with BIA formation, Quebec, and Key Clinical Skills, Ontario.

She was co-principal investigator in Grants (2013) received from the Cure Foundation and the Quebec Breast Foundation on bone health in women receiving treatment for breast cancer. Recent publications (2016-2017) include the results of these studies as well as a review of Rehabilitation & Exercise Program Development for a global population of cancer patients and implementation of clinical practice guidelines.

 

Dr. David Langelier, Physiatrist, Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship

Dr. David Langelier

Dr. David Langelier, Physiatrist, Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship, is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Investigator in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences (Zoology) at the University of Calgary prior to completing his Medical Doctorate at the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine. In 2018, he completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency with additional certification in Electrodiagnostics (EMG) from the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists. Following residency, Dr. Langelier completed a fellowship in Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship from the University of Toronto and is currently one of six subspecialized cancer rehabilitation physicians in Canada.

Dr. Langelier currently works at the Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship Clinic at Princess Margaret and has a clinical focus on improving functional impairments and quality of life in all cancer survivors and increasing exercise participation in men and women with cancer. He holds a Master of Science in Rehabilitation from the University of Calgary and has training in mixed methodological research. His main areas of research include examining the effect of physical activity on cancer-associated impairments, creating surveillance models to effectively screen cancer impairments, physical activity promotion within the advanced/metastatic cancer population, and medical education in cancer survivorship.
