Overview

This online physiotherapy course will focus on using a multi-sensory yoga approach to support children and young adults with sensory integration difficulties. We’ll tap into the 5 senses along with the 2 hidden senses, the proprioceptive and vestibular systems, and will explore asanas, breathing strategies, and visualization strategies that support the integration of internal and external stimuli in the sensory processing system.

We’ll explore how to effectively develop a “sensory diet” specifically designed for the individual needs of the child or young adult based on observation, assessment, and evaluation. This multi-sensory approach will support children and young adults who exhibit sensory integration difficulties with body awareness, self-regulation, motor planning, and coordination.

This course will also teach hands-on and interactive activities, games, yoga poses, chair yoga, visualization strategies, and breathing exercises specifically designed for children of all abilities, including children with autism and special needs and children with emotional and behavioral challenges.

We’ll explore the impact stress and anxiety can have on a child’s nervous system and how this impacts mood, behavior, and physical well-being.

We’ll learn how to incorporate “sensory breaks” and movement activities throughout the day in order to support children with identifying uncomfortable sensations in the body, communication, and expression of difficult emotions, coping skills, social skills, body awareness, executive functioning, and self-regulation. Participants will learn strategies for empowering children with tools in order to cope with stress, reduce anxiety and find their C.A.L.M.M.
