Overview:

According to Wikipedia, Grand Rounds have historically been a methodology of medical education consisting of presenting the medical problems and treatment of a particular patient to an audience consisting of doctors, pharmacists, residents, and medical students.

The Adjunct Education Committee of the National Orthopaedic Division is initiating Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Grand Rounds, which gathers physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals to highlight the importance of an interprofessional collaboration in treatment. Complex and unique cases are presented with the intention of bringing together various areas of practice and different perspectives of clinical reasoning.

The Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Grand Rounds 2 was presented online on Jan 12, 2021. It it dives into the case of a teenage baseball pitcher with an atypical presentation involving cervicothoracic, neurodynamic and scapulohumeral dysfunction resulting in shoulder and elbow pain and axillary tingling. The panelists discuss several hypotheses that could have resulted in such symptoms, including thoracic outlet syndrome and shoulder instability. Several areas of physiotherapy treatment were considered to formulate the most suitable care plan for the patient.
