The first thing to consider when operating a camera is how you want it held.

Generally, there are two options for this: holding it in your hands or mounting it on a tripod. Handheld is more accessible, you don’t need any equipment other than the camera and your hands. It can also be more immersive to action and movement. Problematically, it can also be shaky and difficult to maintain exact framing for long periods of time.

The tripod option is stable and more consistent. For our purposes, tripods are preferred. They are practically required for long lectures and are highly recommended for exercises, though not quite as necessary.
